Child for Change
What is Child for Change?
Child for Change is an idea I came up with. I wanted to raise awareness about an issue I feel very strongly about. This issue is child labor. I learned about child enslavement in seventh grade. I was horrified, untill I realized that I can make a difference. I think the best way to make change is through education. That is why I have created this website to teach you how to further educate yourself and how to teach others.
What is my plan?
I am presenting the "Grand Opening" of my website at my Bar Mitzvah. Child for Change is my Tikkun Olam Project. Tikkun olam is hebrew for healing the world, so this is my turn to heal the world by spreading awareness with this website.
What is Child Labor?
Child labor can be defined in many shapes and forms:
Wikipedia's definition is child labor is the employment of children under an age determined by law or custom.
UNICEF defines child labor as work that exceeds a minimum number of hours, depending on the age of a child and on the type of work.
My definition of child labor is children working with hazardous conditions, being exploited and taken advantage of for slim to no money.
Some forms of child labor are agricultural work, domestic servants, soldiers, stone working, brick making, sewing, fishing, prostitution, product packing and many other horrible jobs. These jobs expose kids as youg as five to violence, hazerdous materials and some things even adults should not be exposed to. I once heard a fellow student at my school define child labor as, "wrongness." He was correct.

How do I make a difference?
The first step to changing the world is reading this website. Educate yourself. The next step is educating others. Whether it's emailing this link or striking up a conversation about child labor. Whether it is creating an organization or buying fair trade chocolate, you are making a difference.
The next step is donating to Free the Children. I have created a fundraising page that allows you to donate directly to my fundraiser. I will be able to see where all the money goes. I plan to direct the account towards education, specifically to build schools, pay for teachers salaries, buy school supplies and more.
